ABOUT

javier belastegui

Hi! My name is Javier Belastegui Lazcano and I am a mathematical philosopher. In my research, I apply logic and geometry to study similarity, natural kind essentialism, classical and prototype concepts, metaphysical equivalence, and other philosophical topics.

Currently, I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Logic, Cognition, Language and Information (ILCLI), hired by the University of the Basque Country. I work with María de Ponte Azkarate, and I am also a member of the LAT research group. My research is funded by the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation of the Basque Government.

I am an external member of the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, where I spent two years as a visitor researcher working with Hannes Leitgeb. Before that, I wrote my PhD thesis under the supervision of Thomas Mormann.
